Ph.D. 程序
The marine sciences program offers 课程 and opportunities for research in four main areas: biological, chemical, physical, and geological oceanography. 每一个学生 receives formal training in each of these disciplines while concentrating in a specific 研究领域. 核心课程
A field of specialization is required of all candidates Ph值.D. 学位. 所有
students must have formal course work in all of the core marine science subdisciplines.
This 要求 is normally met by completion of 四(4) core 课程 (see below)

Graduate students will only receive graduate credit for the 500 level version of dual-listed
课程.
At least 12 semester 小时 of dissertation course credit is required. 不超过
15 小时 in this category can be counted toward the minimum 要求 of 60 semester
小时.
At least two (2) semester 小时 of seminar (two, one (1) semester hour enrollments)

Written and oral examinations in marine sciences 是必需的 of all students seeking
Ph值.D. 海洋科学学位. These examinations are given after at least two
full years but before five full years of graduate study are completed. 书面
comprehensive examination is taken first and normally is more general in scope than
口语综合考试. The examinations may be taken no more than twice.
候选资格
A doctoral student is admitted to candidacy upon passing both the written and oral
comprehensive examinations and after completing all formal course work 要求s.
The doctoral candidate is a student who has fulfilled all preliminary 要求s
Ph值.D. and has only completion of the dissertation research as the remaining
要求.
论文答辩
The final oral defense of the dissertation is scheduled after the dissertation is
completed except for such revisions as may be necessary as a result of the defense.
The final oral defense will not be given earlier than one semester after admission
to candidacy and not before all required course work has been completed or is currently
